The K-Files

I am totally digging Kristoff today. Oh, sure, on Friday I will probably be digging his grave, but let's enjoy the sun while it's shining. Last Tuesday, Kristoff's piece, "Let Them Sweat" seemed like the work of a man who had taken the first step on a twelve step program toward intellectual reform. Today, he takes the FBI and its anthrax investigation to task. Special Agent K has theories, he names names (well, he names pseudonyms, but whatever), and he generally tries to turn up the heat on the Feds. Safire has done this sort of column occassionaly, so it will be interesting to see if Kristoff has the juice to make something happen.

Begging for comment is this paragraph:

"If Mr. Z were an Arab national, he would have been imprisoned long ago. But he is a true-blue American with close ties to the U.S. Defense Department, the C.I.A. and the American biodefense program. On the other hand, he was once caught with a girlfriend in a biohazard "hot suite" at Fort Detrick, surrounded only by blushing germs."

Oh, dear. That doesn't sound like safe sex at all. On the other hand, if Kristoff has a problem with consensual sex in the workplace, he probably should have told us so back in 1998.
