Bob Herbert on The Central Park Jogger

I think it is now impossible to know what the five accused boys — now men — did or did not do to the jogger.

Herbert discusses the coverage of the case back in 1989 and 1990. This is not immediately obvious, which leads to a jarring opening sentence:

There is no doubt that much of the press coverage of the Central Park jogger case was racist and way, way over the top.

That prompted a long pause, until I got on the same decade with him. But a good column, nonetheless.
