Free Press, Free Elections: Free Berkeley!

Or, "Free Press, Berkeley Style": During the campaign, the ultimately victorious Tom Bates helped throw into the rubbish over a thousand copies of a University of California newspaper endorsing his opponent.

Now, he is sorry. But having won 55% of the vote, he see no reason to resign:

"I won with more than 55 percent of the vote," he said today. "I deeply regret that it happened. I was tired on the last day of the campaign. I made a mistake."

Well, Nixon won with 60% of the vote. Oh, silly comparison - the Nixon debacle took place in the United States.
